S-Ribosylhomocysteinase (LuxS) catalyzes the cleavage of the thioether bond in S-ribosylhomocysteine to produce L- homocysteine and 4,5-dihydroxy-2,3-pentanedione, the precursor of type II bacterial quorum sensing autoinducer.
