Er war ein Vertreter der Energetik, welche von dem Nobelpreistrager Wilhelm Ostwald begrundet wurde. Nach dieser philosophischen Auffassung war Energie die Primarsubstanz und Materie nur eine besondere Erscheinungsform von Energie. Diese Auffassung wurde schlielich von Ludwig Boltzmann mit seiner atomistischen Vorstellung widerlegt. Retrospektiv ist dieses Werk sicherlich interessant.
