Second Graders from Holladay School earned a reward. They chose to invite author, Shirley Holladay, to help them write books. Each student made a hard backed book. As a second project each wrote a story of this book so they could be published authors. Third grade contributed a class story.

Mrs. Jane's Paper Dolls is a true story about the paper dolls that Mrs. Jane's grandmother, from the valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, taught her to make. Mrs. Jane shares them with people from two to one hundred and two. She especially likes to make them for children in hospitals. Colorful illustrations include flowers from Mrs. Jane's yard and paper doll clothes made from seed catalogs and wrapping paper. Instructions for making the dolls and clothes are included.

Meridian Lily Jackson loves to splash in puddles. She dictated this story about herself, a duck, an elephant, and a hippo splashing in puddles to her grandma when she was three. Meridian also loves to do art projects. She made vegetable prints and Grandma helped her make a story about them. She titled this story APPLE APPLE ONION when Grandma asked what she could put in her story to make people laugh. Readers will love the cute stories and the colorful pictures made with lots of Grandma's quilt scraps.
