Sonoma County, California, lies north of San Pablo Bay, part of the greater San Francisco Bay area, and is famous for its world-class wines, incredible sea shores, geysers, and, possibly less known for its stone quarries, the number of which lies in the hundreds. These quarries supply the world with slate patio stones, kitchen counter tops, and other hard-rock necessities including those used in building extremely sturdy homes and larger structures. The marbling of its many varieties of stones often produces fine art the beauty of which I have attempted to capture herein.

Carmel, or Carmel-by-the-Sea as many call it, resides just south of Monterey, California, and at the north end of the near one hundred mile stretch along Highway 1 through Big Sur. Carmel is home to the Mission San Carlos Borromeo del rio Carmelo, the second mission to be established in Northern California. One of the two towers of this mission contains nine forged bells that when rung together can be heard throughout the area. These bells may be the reason for the disproportionate numbers of wind chimes in Carmel, both private and for sale in the many shops that line the main streets there....

The first photo in this book repeats dozens of times as source for the uniqueness of every page. A good close look at each variation of the original photo will eventually yield this truth, but readers are encouraged to seek the balance and structure of each version as they individually vary rather than attempting to find that which they hold in common. As with my Artists of Big Sur volume, this book deals with computational post-processing using a variety of off-the-shelf apps and personal algorithms that provide the contrasting variations.

The first two photos in this book represent the basis for the following set, all of which were created by multiple algorithms to produce more abstract views. This post-processing includes using apps available commercially as well as my own programs. For those reminiscing about the days when photographs and art in general required the use of human control of algorithms consisting of canvas, pencils, and brushes, please know that all of the processes required to make these drawings required human physical and mental control of hands and brains and were not limited to hardware and software...

The first amendment to the U.S. Constitution as adopted in 1791 reads as follows: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Quite a statement given the events that have occurred since the inception of the Internet in the late 20th century. Clearly whistleblowing and hacking have disintegrated secrecy for governments like ours in America that rely on the Net. Needing...
