Argues that an ideological vacuum has fuelled the problems throughout postcommunist Europe and the former Soviet Union. Drawing upon field research, this book aims to paint a picture of post-communist political life in which ideological labels are meaningless and exchangeable at will, and political parties appear and disappear regularly.
