Edward Alleyn (1566 - 1626) was an English Elizabethan actor who founded Dulwich College and Alleyn's School. Ned, as he was called, was a leading actor in his time. By 1590 his career had reached its peak. He was performing the roles of Faustus and Tamburlaine, which were probably created for him. He retired from acting in 1604.
