A new lie detector that works by means of voice analysis hits the market as a consumer product in 2014. Tell a lie out loud, even an innocent "white lie," and the LieDeck goes "beep." The infallible device puts an end to most crime, but in a world where people tell dozens or hundreds of lies every day, chaos erupts. All aspects of human society and of the human psyche are thoroughly shaken by this device, and when people start speaking their private thoughts out loud, they discover that they routinely lie to themselves, which changes everything The inventor of the new lie detector had...

My name is Beaner Wiener, and I'm a black cat with some white bits here and there. I wrote this book all by myself ... well, I did have a bit of help from Overall-man, an old writer-guy who wore overalls all the time and lived in a farmhouse. He adopted me after I got dumped in the bush in a cardboard box with all my brothers and sisters for some reason that I didn't even know what it was. But oh, after that, I had a wonderful life. Overall-man said he had to write a description of this book, but I said I'd do it, 'cause it's my book anyway, right? Of course you're wondering how I could write...

These twelve fictional stories are vaguely rooted in particular times of my very long life. I swear that any similarities between my characters and any actual person, alive or dead, are entirely coincidental ... except that's never entirely true, is it? For instance, the first story is about an old man being admitted into a senior's "assisted living" facility, and ... what was I saying?

Long ago, during the Cretaceous period (when dinosaurs roamed), I taught golf in a rural region of Quebec, Canada, where no self-respecting pro would waste his/her time. I quite enjoyed the experience, and my students lowered their handicaps, so when my body got to the point where it couldn't execute golf shots no more (and yes, I know about double negatives), I wrote this short book to assist my students after I went over to the other side of the grass (local expression for "died"). I hope it helps your game, but if not ... not my fault This book basically teaches the game in a dozen...

I bought a guitar in 1969, and every now and then, -poof,- another song would leap into my head (from where I don't know) and get written down and eventually performed. There are 50 original songs here We Shall Overcome was just arranged by me in1983], including the lyrics and the sheet music (for two or three voices). As well, 18 of my songs were recorded by my long-gone band, -Evolution,- either at outdoor concerts, rallies or in recording studios. All recorded songs are noted *** in the book's list of songs, and all these recordings have been uploaded onto my YouTube channel...

Love-and-sex is a theme with such unplumbable depths that every author is allowed to have his or her turn at the plate. My "kick at the cat," so to speak, involves this theme as seen through and as lived by a quartet of persons. The first novella, Virgin Territory, is about of a girl, Mui Yee Ng, a second-generation Chinese Canadian in third year social work at York University. She ends up stranded in a blizzard at a rural bed and breakfast with a charming teaching assistant. She decides to have her first-ever sexual encounter with this man, but her body rebels. The second novella, Patsy's...

Back in 2014, the year of the original LieDeck Revolution, humanity couldn't cope with reality as laid bare by the infallible lie detector. To avoid total chaos, a coup transforms the UN into a military world government called the World Democratic Authority (WDA), and only WDA agents are allowed to use LieDecks, for policing purposes. In 2033, there emerges a widespread demand for the democratization of the military world government and public access to the LieDeck device. The opposition is led by "Evolution," a social movement that has involved hundreds of millions throughout the world in a...

A compelling historical novel ... ... about early pioneers scratching out a settlement on the shores of the fearsome Lake Erie. Events of Captain Ebenezer Stark's all too short life include the nation-shaping War of 1812, ferocious Great Lakes storms, his gripping involvement in the Underground Railroad, the near loss of a beloved wife, and an attack by a renegade French trapper. American history is cleverly woven into this novel about the Connecticut Western Reserve, a story based on the life of the author's great, great, great grandfather.

For those who want democracy established worldwide, it would be a fairly simple matter to conduct a global referendum, using the Internet. The Internet-based referendum has already begun (see voteworldparliament.org), but eventually, the governments of all nations should pass a UN resolution, take over the voting process and conduct the global referendum in segments in tandem with national elections and using official voters' lists (so that there is little or no voter fraud). A strong mandate from such a world vote would legally and politically compel the creation of a directly-elected,...
