Life in the mountains of Harlan County can be difficult, but the beauty and serenity of the region can also be healing. This work follows the life of Pauline Harber from her youth in the 1940s-1950s in her little mountain community of Martins Fork, through her foray out into the world beyond her beloved mountains, to her fight with kidney disease, and even more joys and tragedies.
