An examination of the work of the Mahayana Buddhist philosopher Nagarjuna. The text refutes the popular interpretation of his philosophy as a form of scepticism and exposes the textual and philosophical weaknesses of the view that Nagarjuna advocates a trans-rational gnosis of an unconceptualisable reality. Though Nagarjuna advocates the Middle Way between nihilism and eternalism, his philosophy of emptiness nevertheless entails nihilism, as his opponents contended.
