I wrote this autobiography so my sons would know something about my life before I married their mother. The names of places and well-known public figures are as accurate as my memory permits. I have changed other names to protect the identities of the persons involved, alive or dead. This autobiography consists of three parts. The Backbone chapters are arranged in a conventional way, going from birth to marriage. This leaves room for my two sons to write their own autobiographies from this point on.
