Der Autor stellt anhand einer Analyse antiker Vorstellungen und Begriffe vom Lehrer, Schuler und Studenten Ausbildungswege, Bildungsideale und literarische Bildung in hellenistischer Zeit dar. Vor diesem weiten Hintergrund und mit Blick auf die Herkunft des Paulus wird anschlieend Paulus' Bildungsgang diskutiert. Analysen seiner Briefe (besonders 1 Kor 7 und 2 Kor 10 - 13) belegen seine hohe Textkompetenz, so dass eine literarische und rhetorische Bildung vorausgesetzt werden muss.

In the web of cultural processes of late antiquity ablution rites and initiation rites were performed in different forms and in different contexts. Such rites existed in Early Judaism and Greco-Roman cults and were also applied in early Christianity under the label "baptism," however, not as one fixed rite uniformly performed and interpreted.
