Each year since 1888, young Catholic men, selected by their Bishops or religious superiors, have entered the Pontifical College Josephinum, the only such seminary under the aegis of the Vatican in North America. The Josephinum was first established by Father John Joseph Jessing to train priests to serve German- speaking immigrants to the United States.
