The story is about a North Carolina farm boy who graduates from North Carolina State University with a degree in textile engineering and goes on to become Governor of South Carolina. The plot of the story is how his success is based on the women in his life, and the way a "highway" is the thread that holds it all together. His adventures take him to numerous places including Cuba, which results in him becoming an unwilling "pawn" for the CIA. The secondary theme is how my main character grows up in the "Old South" but becomes part of the "New South."
