Alice Mae and Charles Yates raise three children on their sorry small form in Hazen, Arkansas. When Alice finds out some huzzy across town "is messing with her husband Charles" she pays her a home visit. That night she serves Charles a chunk of the woman's red hair. When Alice dies leaving Charles to raise three children he decides to join a circus as a human fly. Charles is murdered, later, trying to steal food to feed his family. The Twins' Cafe is a work of fiction set around the January 1958 uprising of the Ku Klux Klan and the Lumbee and Tuscarora Indians of eastern North Carolina. The Indians were successful in fending off the Ku Klux Klan. This book provides a look into the lives of the characters during the 1940's, 50's and into the 1960's. The Reyelle twins are prominent characters and members of the Klan. They own a cafe in the town of Leedsburg and many of the recipes in the book come from their menu. Many of the characters are dumb as a gourd.
