Dílo fotografa Jana Svobody (1934-1990) má mezinárodní význam, přesto je dodnes spíše legendou, neúplně dotýkanou a zpracovanou, dodnes se například nedočkal velké retrospektivní výstavy. Teoretik fotografie Pavel Vančát připravil pro přítomnou edici zevrubnou studii, v níž po soustavném studiu Svobodova díla pojmenovává Svobodovu pozici jako zakladatelské osobnosti celé jedné linie české fotografie.
