Part of the Tavistock Clinic Series. This book explores some of the ways in which an understanding of poetry, and the poetic impulse, can be fruitfully informed by psychoanalytic ideas. The contributors focus on the work of particular poets, from the prophet Ezekiel to Seamus Heaney. They demonstrate the ways in which specific psychoanalytic concepts and theories can enable us to see meanings in a poem which might otherwise not be apparent.
