Friedrich Ueberweg (1826-71) is best remembered for both his compendious History of Philosophy and his System of Logic, both of which went through several editions in the original German. It was the latter's remarkable popularity as a textbook in Germany that led Lindsay to translate it to fill a gap in the English market.
