This book examines dual perspectives of enterprise security, compliance and business continuity, and offers a pathway to their convergence. It also highlights widely existent "compliance paralysis" and analyzes its etiology.

Forests represent a remnant wilderness of high recreational value in the densely populated industrial societies, a threatened natural resource in some regions of the world and a renewable reservoir of essential raw materials for the wood processing industry. In June 1992 the United Nations Conference on the Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro initiated a world-wide process of negotiation with the aim of ensuring sustainable management, conservation and development of forest resources. Although there seems to be unanimous support for sustainable development from all quarters,...

When we talk about forests, we talk about 30% of our planet's land surface 6 area. In 2000 there was an estimated 3 87010 ha of forest worldwide, of which 1 5% is in forest plantations and 95% in natural forests (FAO 2003). Forests are not only a source for timber; they also generate significant nonwood goods and services, mitigate climate change, conserve biological diversity, provide prot- tion from natural hazards, and not least: provide recreational areas for an increasingly urbanized world population. The availability of timber and n- wood goods and services is waning as deforestation...

The increasing awareness and concern of people, researchers and decision makers for the maintenance and enhancement of goods and services provided by forest ecosystems significantly widened the scope of information needs for sustainable forest management on the task-specific, integrative and strategic level. Forest resource assessments have to provide reliable, harmonized, politically relevant, cost-efficient and intuitively visible information on the multiple functions of forests in the form of statistics, georeferenced data and thematic cartography. In this perspective, the need of...

Accurate modeling of different phenomena ( e.g. fluid-dynamics, neutronics...) is fundamental in predicting the behavior of nuclear reactors under nominal and accidental conditions. In this work, new neutronics methods are developed. Their application in safety analyses of nuclear reactors shows that a more accurate modeling can be achieved compared to existing codes.
