In several liver diseases, the underlying cause cannot always be eliminated, i.e. the progression of liver disease cannot be prevented. This is particularly true for non-responders to the treatment of chronic hepatitis C (HCV). It is relevant for more than 40% of patients with HCV genotype 1 and up to 20% of patients with genotype 2 or 3. Several approaches are now underway to prevent or ameliorate mechanisms of disease progression. In Asia, and particularly in Japan, Glycyrrhizine-SNMC has been widely used for this purpose. At present, SNMC is under clinical evaluation in Europe.

Recent breakthroughs in understanding the effectiveness of brain hypothermia treatment have been brought about by rapid progress in experimental gene studies along with new findings in the areas of brain-injury mechanisms, brain thermo-pooling, hemoglobin dysfunction, insulin-resistant hyperglycemia, radical damage involving states of consciousness, management of lipid-dominant metabolism in the intensive care unit (ICU), and management of immune crises under conditions of hypothermia. This book explains the mechanism of brain hypothermia and presents advanced techniques for ICU management...

Analytic Extension is a mysteriously beautiful property of analytic functions. With this point of view in mind the related survey papers were gathered from various fields in analysis such as integral transforms, reproducing kernels, operator inequalities, Cauchy transform, partial differential equations, inverse problems, Riemann surfaces, Euler-Maclaurin summation formulas, several complex variables, scattering theory, sampling theory, and analytic number theory, to name a few. Audience: Researchers and graduate students in complex analysis, partial differential equations,...

The International Brain Hypothermia Symposium 2004, held in Tokyo, was a forum for many of the world s leading researchers and clinicians to present and discuss developments on the cutting edge of this most promising of neurological therapies. With a view to sharing this knowledge and encouraging the spread of new techniques, the editors have compiled these proceedings covering the latest technology and methods. Topics include brain thermo-pooling, hemoglobin-dysfunction-associated neuronal hypoxia, intensive care management of brain hypothermia for severely brain-injured patients, new...
