These are the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 8th International Workshop on Database Programming Languages, DBPL 2001, held in Frascati, Italy, in September 2001. The 18 revised full papers presented together with an invited paper were carefully selected during two rounds of reviewing and revision.
