Written by a select group of industry experts, under the supervision of the leading organization in water utilities, AWWA, this reference is the first practical guide to water desalination systems. Desalination is the process used to remove dissolved salts from seawater or highly-mineralized waters so that the water becomes usable for human and/or agricultural and industrial usage. This book offers authoritative guidance on the planning, design, and implementation of a successful water desalination system for public water utilities.

FROM THE PREFACE In the years since the first edition, I have continued to consider ways in which the texts could be improved. In this regard, I researched several topics including how people learn (learning styles, etc.), how the brain functions in storing and retrieving information, and the fundamentals of memory systems. Many of the changes incorporated in this second edition are a result of this research. The changes were field-tested during a three-year period in which I taught a water and wastewater mathematics course for Palomar Community College, San Marcos, California.

Precoat filtration is a US Environmental Protection Agency- (USEPA-) accepted filtration technique for potable water treatment. When the Surface Water Treatment Rule (SWTR) went into effect in 1989, it provoked a renewed interest in this filtration process as well as other accepted filtration methods. This manual provides general guidelines for the use of precoat filtration, commonly called diatomaceous earth (DE or diatomite) filtration, in potable water treatment. It includes an evaluation of appropriate applications for precoat filtration, discusses the design of economical filtration...

The objective of this manual is to disseminate information on automatic and remote operation and instrumentation of pumping stations and distribution and supply systems, including valves, storage tanks, and booster pumps.
This third edition of M2 includes basic information on electrical power distribution and updates the automation and instrumentation technology that has changed rapidly since the second edition in 1983. It discusses equipment, terms, and expressions an operator encounters wherever electrical systems, automation, and instrumentation are found in water distribution,...

This publication is the second edition of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Manual M20; the original manual was titled "Water Chlorination." This manual provides information on chlorination and chloramination practices for the disinfection of drinking water. It does not cover the use of chlorine as an oxidant or as a disinfectant for pipeline and appurtenances.
Topics covered include: history of chlorination and chloramination; properties of chlorination chemicals; chlorination water chemistry and disinfection mechanisms; handling, storage, feed equipment of chlorine and...
