The series is aimed specifically at publishing peer reviewed reviews and contributions presented at workshops and conferences. Each volume is associated with a particular conference, symposium or workshop. These events cover various topics within pure and applied mathematics and provide up-to-date coverage of new developments, methods and applications.

This book is based on lecture notes of a seminar of the Deutsche Mathematiker Vereinigung held by the authors at Oberwolfach from April 2 to 8, 1995. It gives an introduction to the classification theory and geometry of higher dimensional complex-algebraic varieties, focusing on the tremendeous developments of the sub ject in the last 20 years. Presents lectures given at the 3rd session of the Centro Internazionale Matematico Estivo, held in Cetraro, Italy, in July 1994. The topics covered include four manifolds, line bundles and manifolds of semi-positive curvature.

The Bayreuth meeting on "Complex Algebraic Varieties" focused on the classification of algebraic varieties and topics such as vector bundles, Hodge theory and hermitian differential geometry. Most of the articles in this volume are closely related to talks given at the conference.
