La etica protestante y el "espiritu" del capitalismo" se interroga por el origen de la mentalidad capitalista moderna, enemiga y vencedora del tradicionalismo, y llega a la conclusion de que tal mentalidad procede, no del propio desarrollo economico capitalista, sino del modo de vida generado por el protestantismo de raiz calvinista, que redundo en una racionalizacion equivalente a una "desmagificacion" del mundo, es decir, en la reduccion del mismo a objeto de calculo, explotacion y dominacion.

Escrito por Max Weber, un economista y sociologo aleman, entre 1904 y 1905, como una serie de ensayos. Mas tarde se publico como libro.
