Arthur H. Arnold was born on a cotton farm near Central, South Carolina, in 1883. He was one of seven children born to William and Francis Arnold. He grew up, married a local girl, and eventually moved away. The farm was sold, and by the late 1950's both the farm and home were abandoned. On a warm November day in the early 1960's, Arthur, now an older man, returned back to the place of his boyhood home. He brought along his camera, and both the photographs that he took, along with the verses he composed, became for him a day of reminiscence.
