This work documents the everyday, yet astonishing, experiences of spirit activity within the domestic space of the Victorian parlour. Through the intimacy of her diary-like prose, Houghton conjures cosy images of spirits laying the table for tea in what she called the 'interblending of the heavenly and the mundane'.

Chris and Cathy with their daughters (pictured) worked together to create "What If ?." Inspired by the young at heart, Chris, the author came up with the idea for the book. While the majority of the illustrations were created by mom (Cathy), the drawing of the horses was done by the youngest daughter, Jessie. The dinosaur was drawn by Jarre the middle daughter. The gopher was drawn by the oldest daughter Sara no (h). We hope you enjoy this simple story with an important message. Be yourself."
