Now available for the first time in a reasonably priced study score, Sibelius' two suites enttitled Scenes Historiques. With origins all the way back to 1899, the composer put together two suites of three numbers each in 1911-1912. Each was given its premiere with the composer directing the Helsinki Philharmonic and subsequently published with widely-spaced opus numbers (in 1912 and 1913). These digitally-enhanced reprints will be a favorite of Sibelius fans along with anyone who likes to view Finnish composer's superb orchestrational skills in action.
