"Bekenntnisse eines englischen Opiumessers" ist das bekannteste autobiografische Werk des englischen Schriftstellers Thomas de Quincey (1785-1859). Dieser Bericht, in dem de Quincey ganz offen, ehrlich und gleichzeitig kunstlerisch und spannend sein Leben voller Leid, Sucht und Genuss beschreibt, erschien zum ersten Mal im Jahre 1821 im "London Magazine." Thomas De Quincey (1785 1859) described his adolescent discovery of the Lyrical Ballads of Wordsworth and Coleridge as 'an absolute revelation of untrodden worlds, teeming with power and beauty'.
