A New Friend is a story about friendship and acceptance and basing friendship on the person. Christopher learns that his new friend Derrick is homeless. This doesn't matter to him because Derrick is his friend, no matter what.

Christopher finds out his Gram has Alzheimer's Disease. While he does not fully understand, he enjoys and treasures his time with Gram and begins to think of ways to help her remember him and the fun things that they have always done together.
