Most active cellular functions involve motion. These may be subtle subcellular actions, such as the sorting and targeting of vesicles and organelles leading to the release of neurotransmitters, hormones, or other molecules, or more pronounced motions of the chromosomes and cytoskeleton as the cell divides.
