The data covers the extremes of a period, from the 1970s to the early years of the 21st century, of unprecedented changes in reproductive behaviour.

The chart contains up-to-date demographic, socioeconomic and labour force participation indicators of the older population in 230 countries in the world, including reference to the urban-rural differences in population ageing.
