Boundary problems constitute an essential field of common mathematical interest. The intention of this volume is to highlight several analytic and geometric aspects of boundary problems with special emphasis on their interplay. It includes surveys on classical topics presented from a modern perspective as well as reports on current research.
The collection splits into two related groups:
- analysis and geometry of geometric operators and their index theory
- elliptic theory of boundary value problems and the Shapiro-Lopatinsky condition

Introduction We have been experiencing since the 1970s a process of symplectization of S- ence especially since it has been realized that symplectic geometry is the natural language of both classical mechanics in its Hamiltonian formulation, and of its re?nement, quantum mechanics. The purposeof this bookis to providecorema- rial in the symplectic treatment of quantum mechanics, in both its semi-classical and in its full-blown operator-theoretical formulation, with a special emphasis on so-called phase-space techniques. It is also intended to be a work of reference for the reading of more...

Noncommutative geometry, which can rightfully claim the role of a philosophy in mathematicalstudies, undertakesto replacegoodoldnotionsofclassicalgeometry (suchas manifolds, vectorbundles, metrics, di?erentiable structures, etc. ) by their abstract operator-algebraic analogs and then to study the latter by methods of the theory of operator algebras. At ?rst sight, this pursuit of maximum possible generality harbors the danger of completely forgetting the classical beginnings, so that not only the answers but also the questions would defy stating in traditional terms. Noncommutative geometry...

This book presents several recent developments in the theory of hyperbolic equations. The carefully selected invited and peer-reviewed contributions deal with questions of low regularity, critical growth, ill-posedness, decay estimates for solutions of different non-linear hyperbolic models, and introduce new approaches based on microlocal methods.

This volume collects six articles on selected topics at the frontier between partial differential equations and spectral theory, written by leading specialists in their respective field. The articles focus on topics that are in the center of attention of current research, with original contributions from the authors. They are written in a clear expository style that makes them accessible to a broader audience. The articles contain a detailed introduction and discuss recent progress, provide additional motivation, and develop the necessary tools. Moreover, the authors share their views on...

Partial differential equations constitute an integral part of mathematics. They lie at the interface of areas as diverse as differential geometry, functional analysis, or the theory of Lie groups and have numerous applications in the applied sciences. A wealth of methods has been devised for their analysis. Over the past decades, operator algebras in connection with ideas and structures from geometry, topology, and theoretical physics have contributed a large variety of particularly useful tools. One typical example is the analysis on singular configurations, where elliptic equations have...
