The series is devoted to the publication of high-level monographs which cover the whole spectrum of current nonlinear analysis and applications in various fields, such as optimization, control theory, systems theory, mechanics, engineering, and other sciences. One of its main objectives is to make available to the professional community expositions of results and foundations of methods that play an important role in both the theory and applications of nonlinear analysis. Contributions which are on the borderline of nonlinear analysis and related fields and which stimulate further research...

In 1903 Fredholm published his famous paper on integral equations. Since then linear integral operators have become an important tool in many areas, including the theory of Fourier series and Fourier integrals, approximation theory and summability theory, and the theory of integral and differential equations. As regards the latter, applications were soon extended beyond linear operators. In approximation theory, however, applications were limited to linear operators mainly by the fact that the notion of singularity of an integral operator was closely connected with its linearity.

In view of the eminent importance of spectral theory of linear operators in many fields of mathematics and physics, it is not surprising that various attempts have been made to define and study spectra also for nonlinear operators. This book provides a comprehensive and self-contained treatment of the theory, methods, and applications of nonlinear spectral theory. The first chapter briefly recalls the definition and properties of the spectrum and several subspectra for bounded linear operators. Then some numerical characteristics for nonlinear operators are introduced which are useful for...

The authors present functional analytical methods for solving a class of partial differential equations. The results have important applications to the numerical treatment of rheology (specific examples are the behaviour of blood or print colours) and to other applications in fluid mechanics. A class of methods for solving problems in hydrodynamics is presented.

This is the first part of the second revised and extended edition of the well established book "Function Spaces" by Alois Kufner, Oldřich John, and Svatopluk Fučik. Like the first edition this monograph is an introduction to function spaces defined in terms of differentiability and integrability classes. It provides a catalogue of various spaces and benefits as a handbook for those who use function spaces in their research or lecture courses.
This first volume is devoted to the study of function spaces, based on intrinsic properties of a function such as its size,...

This monograph is an introduction to some special aspects of topology, functional analysis, and analysis for the advanced reader. It also wants to develop a degree theory for function triples which unifies and extends most known degree theories. The book aims to be self-contained and many chapters could even serve as a basis of a course on the covered topics. Only knowledge in basic calculus and of linear algebra is assumed.

This monographis a self-contained exposition of the definition and properties of functionsof bounded variation and their various generalizations; the analytical properties of nonlinear composition operators in spaces of such functions; applications to Fourier analysis, nonlinear integral equations, and boundary value problems. The book is written for non-specialists. Every chapter closes with a list of exercises and open problems.

This is the second volume of Nonlinear Equations with Small Parameter containing new methods of construction of global asymptotics of solutions to nonlinear equations with small parameter. They allow one to match asymptotics of various properties with each other in transition regions and to get unified formulas for connection of characteristic parameters of approximate solutions. This approach underlies modern asymptotic methods and gives a deep insight into crucial nonlinear phenomena. These are beginnings of chaos in dynamical systems, incipient solitary and shock waves,...
