This text examines three decades of work by the artist, Nancy Spero. Her subject matter, the depiction of women, has ranged from the writings of Artaud to the Vietnam war. She collages and imprints her images of contemporary goddesses onto long papyrus-like friezes that scroll around walls, combining totemic figures with mythological and historical chronicles. This book also includes Spero's own writings many of which are published for the first time.

This text explores the work of vanguard artist Mark Dion who has made site-specific projects all over the world which explore the relationship of Western art, literature and museology with the natural environment. His sculptures and installations often focus on contemporary environmental issues, and have the uncanny quality of film sets or dioramas. His life-size environments have included live and stuffed animals, plants, lab equipment, and museological displays of garbage. They present lyrical and funny investigations into exoticism, colonialism and environmental crisis.

Whilst her video work is often visceral and emotive, her sculptures and environments are ultra cool and minimal in their aesthetic. They often mimic domestic or institutional furniture yet their designs and material have a threatening edge. This text argues that Hatoum's works can be seen as...

- Anri Sala (b.1974) is a young artist whose haunting videos, photographs and installations have been applauded by critics and curators the world over - Though his work employs straight documentary practices, it also weaves its formal concerns (light and darkness, monochrome and colour, sound and silence) into a poetic investigation of its medium - Among other distinctions, Sala was awarded the Young Artist Prize at the 49th Venice Biennale (2001) and nominated for the Guggenheim's prestigious Hugo Boss Prize (2002) - This is the first monograph of this scale and scope on Anri Sala's...
