Since the 1950s, hundreds of enclosed rural settlements have been found in Japan, although this is the first attempt at a morphological analysis of the plans of these structures. This volume examines site morphology, the geographical division of sites and their position within the landscape before focusing on four case studies. This volume is a valuable study of very early sites, in particular from the Lower and Middle Pleistocene. A number of parasite finds are detailed from a range of contexts including coprolites and sediment samples.
