Antibiotics resistance is widespread and increasing worldwide. Resistance to antibiotics made the necessity to develop newer antibiotics to overcome the resistance. Actinomycetes have contributed important tools for combating human and animal infections. All the soil samples were collected from various places in and around ooty, various places in Tamilnadu and Kerala. In the process of screening for a potent antimicrobial compound, a new strain of Streptomyces Species (ABR-1 ) was isolated from the Ernakulam ( Top soil) in Kerala. It was found to antagonistic to both bacterial and fungal test organisms. Production of antibiotic was more in newly formulated DAS broth. Antibiotic production reached maximum at the end of the 118 h of fermentation by stirred flask culture. The antimicrobial compound was extracted in n-butanol, ethyl acetate and methanol. None of the extract of antimicrobial compound showed cytotoxic activity on Vero cell lines. During the process of screening for a potent antimicrobial compound, a new strain was isolated from the soil sample of Thalaikunda village in Ooty, TamilNadu. That organism was name as NK2 . It was found to antagonistic to both bact
