Multi-Protocol Label Switched (MPLS) based TrafficEngineering (TE) is a common and effective resource management optiondeployed by several service providers to tackle the explosivegrowth in traffic volume. This book discusses new MPLS based TE mechanisms capable of dealing with traffic changes whileillustrating the analysis and performance metrics that are involved indesigning one. Specifically, new techniques for dynamic bandwidthallocation and routing are proposed and developed throughsimulations under failure and non-failure scenarios. Issues related tointer-domain deployment are also studied. With the emergence of numerous successful open sourceefforts that provide routing and forwarding services coupledwith decreasing hardware costs, it is easier than beforeto build testbeds with specific goals. Design principles of anApplication Programming Interface (API) for a platform that will allow TEexperimentation is discussed. Sample experiments on a prototype areillustrated for motivating the development of open architectures thatwill allow performance analysis of custom TE techniques oncommercial equipment.
