The powerloom industry has grown up from handloom sector traditionally with inherent technical know how passed on from forefather and is being continuing in many of the clusters. Production of cloth as well as generation of employment has been rapidly increasing in the powerloom sector. The powerloom industry produces a wide variety of cloth, both grey as well as processed with intricate designs. The contribution of powerloom sector to the total cloth production of the country is to the extent of 59.15% and it contributes significantly to the export earning of the country.The growth of the powerloom industry in India has been by and large skewed and therefore, there is a need of inclusive growth to facilitate equal opportunity for the development of the sector. To augment the domestic production and marketing as well as export by the powerloom weavers, there is a need for integrated scheme which can take care of such activities viz., modernisation of powerloom industry, exposure visits, exposure visits, buyer seller meet, cluster development activities, periodic survey of the powerloom industry, development and upgradation of skills.
