Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn (1918-2008), one of the most prominent literary figures of 20th Century Russia and anti-establishment writer, is better known for his fierce criticism of the Soviet and Post-Soviet Russian societies. This book is an attempt to reread Solzhenitsyns poetics to understand his literary genius, his literary tradition and his social criticism. The book contains four chapters. The first chapter - Solzhenitsyns discourse on literary aesthetics - explores Solzhenitsyns idea of aesthetics in literary texts. The second chapter - Solzhenitsyns discourse on Stalin & Stalinism - deals with his criticism of Stalin and Stalinism through his literary works. The third chapter - Understanding ethical socialism through Cancer Ward - tries to understand his concept of ethical socialism through his novel Cancer Ward. The fourth and the final chapter - Chekhovian Rereading of Solzhenitsyn - analyses Solzhenitsyns works from a Chekhovian point of view.
