The female reproductive organs are among the few adult tissues in which periodic angiogenesis normally occurs. Pathological angiogenesis can occur in various conditions, such as solid tumors. To learn more about pathological angiogenesis, we can study the normal process as it occurs during pregnancy. This is a study of angiogenesis in caprine reproductive organs during pregnancy at different time points and different levels of observation. At the gross anatomical level, tissue clearing technique was used to study the development of blood vessels with time. At the microscopic level; microvascular corrosion casts viewed in a scanning electron microscope were employed. At the cellular and molecular levels, mmunolocalization of vascular endothelial growth factor and measuring expression of its mRNA with quantitative real-time PCR were performed. The techniques used are discussed in details. This book is an invaluable source of images showing the development of blood vessels during pregnancy. It is a very helpful source for researchers studying blood vessels and their development.
