According to the Institute of Medicine, between 44,000 to 98,000 Americans die each year due to medical errors, and approximately 1,000,000 patients injured annually. Many hospitals use a paper-based system to make requests for clinical contents and to get approval from the different divisions at the hospital. Like any system, efficiency is the most important component. However, with the advancement of today s information technology, paper-based systems can be greatly improved. Some limitations with the current systems are difficulty to track order entries made by users at each step; time consumption as each entry has to get handed to the next department by hand or mail; archiving of the elements used by the physicians can not be created; if the order-entry fails at any stage the whole process has to start from the beginning. To eliminate all these difficulties and increase efficiency; a new web-based software was developed to replace the current paper-based system. This system allows users to track requests and their current status. Implementing this system will facilitate gathering information, provide statistical analysis and hence, maximize efficiency on the managerial level.
