The depletion of fossil fuels and the increasedmeasures to reduce carbon emissions has led to asubstantial increased interest in renewable energies. As biomass is a carbon neutral fuel, the potential ofbiomass combustion is highly interesting forsmall-scale water boilers. This book, therefore, presents the design and development a 20kW BiomassHeat Generator for domestic or small-scale industrialuse. CFD is used to model a basic biomass boileravailable on the market, and to improve the currentdesign, investigating the effect of the combustiongeometry and the addition of fins to the tubes. CFDprovides relatively cheap and quick indications ofdesign optimisation targeting increased thermalefficiency and/or reduced emissions. A mathematicalmodel of the combustion of biomass determines thedegree of dissociation in the exhaust gases and theflame temperature. The emphasis of this book is onthe potential of computational fluid dynamics forbiomass applications and provides a goodunderstanding of RET in reducing carbon footprint;and should be especially useful to students, professionals involved with biomass combustion andparties interested in wood based water boilers.
