In this book, the basalt fiber (Mineral fiber) has been considered due to the excellent properties as potential reinforcement of composite materials. Composites of chopped basalt fiber (6 mm) with thermoplastic material Nylon-6 were prepared and mechanical, morphological and thermal properties were evaluated. The composite of without coupling agent prepared by varying the loading of basalt fiber content of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% by weight and with coupling agent composite loading of Nylon-6 and basalt fiber content were kept constant and the coupling agent loading were changed as 1phr,2phr,3phr,4phr and 5phr.From the test results, it observed that there is excellent mechanical properties in case of using basalt fiber as compared to glass-filled Nylon-6.Thermal properties were improved due to inherent property of basalt fiber. The composites were also characterized by DSC,TGA,DMA,FT-IR, SEM. Basalt fiber is inert, nontoxic and good insulating properties so it can easily replace the glass fiber and asbestos fiber and can be used in automobile applications and other applications where thermal insulating properties required.
