It is a retrospective study of homicidal deaths brought for Medico Legal Autopsy at the Forensic Medicine Department, M.P. Shah Medical College, Jamnagar, Gujarat (India) during the five year period from 2000 through 2004. This medical college is one of the most reputed & oldest post graduates institute & it caters over a vast region comprising of more than 6-7 districts of western part of the state. The study was carried out from the post mortem reports, police inquest papers, dead body challans, etc. available & details were also noted down from case history obtained from the relatives, eye witnesses, police investigating officers, hospital records etc. Homicide in the present study means any unnatural death resulting from the act of another person falling under sec. 302, IPC (Indian Penal Code). Records on each case were examined to determine factors such as age, sex, marital status, methods used, body injuries, causes of death, motives and any contribution of mental illness, alcoholism & sexual offences. The results were tabulated for easy study & comparison.
