Kanji Workbook for Intermediate Japanese is designed to help students expand their kanji knowledge and vocabulary at the intermediate level. Created as a textbook supplement, instructors and students will benefit from the rich, comprehensive information the workbook provides for each kanji. In addition to the English definitions of words, phrases, and compounds, students will learn the readings and meanings of kanji characters, stroke order, and frequently used compounds and their meanings.
This workbook is unique in that students will also have access to a website designed for self-paced learners to check their kanji knowledge related to the content of this workbook. The website contains online flashcards and reading/meaning exercise quizzes. In the classroom or on their own, students of Japanese will find this workbook helpful in increasing their kanji competency.
Yukie Aida has been teaching Japanese at the University of Texas at Austin since 1989. She currently holds a rank of Senior Lecturer in the Department of Asian Studies and teaches second-semester Japanese and third-year level reading courses. Her research interests include students' perspectives on their performances in skit writing and presenting, group projects (newspaper publishing and video-making of grammar lessons), and students' beliefs about homework assignments and their effects on their learning. She received a Ph.D in Educational Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988.
Junko Hatanaka has been a lecturer of Japanese at the University of Texas at Austin since 2000. She received a M.S. In Rhetoric and Technical Communication from Michigan Technological University in 1997 and a M.A.in Japanese from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1998. Her research interests include communication strategies in spoken Japanese as a second language and Content-Based learning though achievement of various learners' projects. She is also interested in supporting Japanese language learners to practice Kansai dialect, and is the co-creator of a Kansai-ben self-learning web site (http: //www.kansaiben.com/).
Naoko Suito has been teaching Japanese at the University of Texas at Austin since 1996. She currently holds a rank of Senior Lecturer in the Department of Asian Studies and teaches second-year Japanese and third-year level reading courses. Her research interests include the use of online exercises in language learning. Her scholarship also focuses on the effect of group projects on the growth of student interest in class assignments and the expansion of knowledge. She created and manages the JOSHU study-help site (http: //www.laits.utexas.edu/japanese/joshu). She received a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Texas at Austin in 1991.
