There is an ongoing effort to screen plants used medicinally in different regions of the world. However, it is known that the same plant growing in different areas may have widely different chemical components and hence different biological activities. Essential oils are widely distributed in high concentration in certain plants. Family Lamiaceae produces some of the most widely used essential oils. This family is important to human as a source of plants useful for flavor, fragrance, or medicinal properties such as: Basil, Mint, Rosemary, Sage, Marjoram, Thyme, and Lavender. Mentha (Mint) is a genus of about 30 species of flowering plants. Mints are aromatic, almost exclusively perennial, rarely annual herbs. Several Mentha species have been studied. Mentha suaveolens Ehrh. (Apple mint) is a new interesting species of the genus.
