This work analyzes in detail the issue of theextension of Greek territorial waters more than sixnautical miles in the Aegean Sea. Although Greece andTurkey have different understandings of it, thismatter constitutes the basis for other maritimedisputes between the two States. There are a numberof general studies on the Aegean disputes betweenGreece and Turkey in the International Relations andInternational Law literatures. Different from thoseother accounts, this research solely focuses on theextent of the Greek territorial waters dispute andthe problem related to the delimitation of maritimeboundaries between Greece and Turkey with an aim toprovide settlement proposals. While doing this, itstudies the historical roots of the conflicts,analyzes the claims of the parties from a legal andpolitical point of view, and presents new approachesto understand and solve the disputes.
