Recently, there is an increasing interest in high data rate short reach-optical communication (SR-OC) systems for data center interconnects, highdefinition television and video-on-demand. Carrierless amplitude/phase (CAP) has been adopted as low cost high spectral efficiency modulation scheme. This work proposes the design and implementation of Terabit short reach fiber link using wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) based multiband (MB) and single-band (SB) CAP modulation for 1.8 Tb/s SR-OC system, where sixteen channels are used, each operating at 112 Gb/s. The performance of MB system at C and O operating bands is investigated for two values of channel spacing 100 and 200 GHz and compared with that of single-band one. The transmission performance of 112 Gb/s hybrid multiband (HMB) CAP/quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) scheme was addressed over a single mode fiber (SMF). Simulation of HMB CAP-M, M=16,32, and 64 was performed and the results were compared with that of the corresponding SB of the same schemes. The results show that increasing the roll-off factor (r) will improve the bit error rate (BER) performance of the system.
