This work examines modern pharmaceutical compacting techniques used to form tablets from powders. It describes the physical structure of pharmaceutical compacts, the bonding phenomena that occur during powder compaction, and the compression mechanisms of pharmaceutical particles. Fundamental theories of compaction are covered; questions of dominating bond types are investigated; and the bonding area between particles in pharmaceutical compacts is analyzed.

Aging is the progressive decline in biological functions over time. This decline targets macromolecules, cells, tissues and, as a consequence, whole organisms. Despite considerable progress in the development of testable hypothesis concerning aging in an evolutionary context, a unifying theory of the molecular/physiological mechanistic causes of aging has not been reached.
