'Flanflottamoe and the Speech' is the first in the 'The Incredibly Dramatic Life of Flanflottamoe' series. The story centres around Flanflottamoe, a small, yellow, human like character, who is a bit shy, but is told that he has to make a speech to the entire universe. He decides that he will work his way up to making a speech to the universe and sets about making his speech to his friend, then a small group, then his town; and so the story progresses. The series revolves around Flanflottamoe, who somehow manages to find himself in an incredibly dramatic situation in every story, however is always able to use his skills, such as common sense and improvisation to get through. The purpose of the series is to teach children between the ages of five and seven how to overcome situations that may at first seem difficult, such as giving a talk, or moving class. By Flanflottamoe being able to deal with such incredibly dramatised versions of these real life problems, (giving a talk to the class- giving a talk to the universe, moving class- moving planet) the series is able to encourage children, inspiring their own capabilities in situations that are even though smaller in comparison, still undoubtedly important to them. The whole idea is for children to say; 'If Flanflottamoe can do it, so can I '
