Murdered at the age of seventeen by a Catholic priest, John comes back to life. Facing the priest, he's puzzled that they do not finish him off, and sets out on an adventure of discovery. He witnesses the eruption of Mount Saint Helens, and encounters four creatures: First, a peaceful but frightening meeting with Bigfoot in a blizzard. Later he narrowly escapes an attack by a six-foot tall eagle called the Thunderbird. Thirdly, John gets in an Alien's face for harassing his daughter. The fourth creature is man. He learns that his murder long ago was a Jesuit initiation, and; should one of these Protestants come back to life, not a hand shall be raised against him for thirty years. With only few years left, John flees to New Zealand to hide. They find him, and are unable to raise a hand against him until the appointed time. To survive, he eludes them in a forest of people for years. In the pangs of trauma, on the cusp of fiction, John narrates his ordeals on a quest to tell the truth even if it leads to his own death.
